Call for Student Volunteers

The 2026 Festival of Learning brings together three leading conferences in AI and education research: AIED (Artificial Intelligence in Education), EDM (Educational Data Mining), and L@S (Learning at Scale) for an unprecedented collaborative event in Seoul, South Korea.

We are excited to invite applications for Student Volunteers to support this historic gathering of researchers, practitioners, and educators from around the world.

The Festival of Learning 2026 will be held at COEX, Seoul, from June 27 to July 3, 2026. This co-located event represents a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research across multiple communities in AI and education.

As a Student Volunteer, you will:

  • Gain free conference registration – Full access to all three conferences (AIED, EDM, and L@S)
  • Network with leading researchers – Direct interaction with international experts in AI and education
  • Experience behind-the-scenes conference operations – Learn how major academic conferences are organized
  • Build your professional network – Connect with peers from the AIED, EDM, and L@S communities
  • Contribute to your research community – Support the success of this landmark collaborative event

Volunteer Responsibilities

Student Volunteers will be assigned to one or more of the following roles:

  • Registration Desk – Help attendees with check-in and information
  • Wayfinding/Access Control – Guide attendees around the venue
  • Session Support – Assist with parallel sessions (1-2 volunteers per room)
  • Poster Hall Support – Support poster session setup and operations
  • Workshop/tutorial – Support workshop/tutorial session setup and operations
  • Demo Sessions – Support demo session setup and operations
  • Whova support – Support the Whova app with the web chair/social media chair
  • General Event Support – Other duties as needed

Time Commitment: Each volunteer is expected to contribute a minimum of 12 hours to a maximum of 20 hours during the conference week. Specific schedules will be coordinated to allow volunteers to attend sessions of interest.

Eligibility

We welcome applications from:

  • Graduate students (PhD, Master’s)
  • Advanced undergraduate students

Preference will be given to applicants who:

  • Are based in South Korea or the Asia-Pacific region, or are fluent in both English and Korean
  • Have submitted a paper, poster, or workshop to AIED, EDM, or L@S 2026
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion

Applications will be reviewed by representatives from each community (AIED, EDM, L@S) with emphasis on diversity, community balance, and demonstrated interest in the field.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be evaluated based on:

  • Academic background and research interests
  • Previous participation in AIED, EDM, or L@S conferences
  • Paper/poster/workshop submissions to FoL 2026
  • Commitment to supporting the conference
  • Diversity considerations (geographic, institutional, demographic)
